The pathway to becoming a certified Scottish Fly Fishing Guide involves a rigorous assessment of technical skill, safety protocols, and ecological commitment. Ensure all requirements are prepared before starting your application.

Process Requirements:
  • Documented Guiding History (Min. 2 Seasons)
  • Professional Casting Qualifications (SGAIC/APPGAI/FFI/GAIA)
  • Valid First Aid & Public Liability Insurance
  • Signed Agreement to the SFFGA Code of Practice
  • Detailed Professional & Personal Reference

Scottish Fly Fishing Guides Association: Code of Practice

Professional certification requires an unwavering commitment to the highest standards of angling safety, ecological ethics, and instructional excellence. All members must pledge to:

1. Prioritize wild fish welfare and catch-and-release protocols.
2. Maintain comprehensive safety certifications and insurance for all Scottish waters.
3. Act as environmental stewards, minimizing ecological impact.
4. Uphold the reputation of the SFGA through integrity and professionalism in all client interactions.
5. Strictly comply with local seasonal bylaws and land access codes.

By proceeding with this application, you acknowledge and agree to these benchmarks of professional guiding.

Membership Plans

Professional Guide Membership

£225 per year

Designed for individual professional fly fishing guides who are committed to the highest standards of guiding, safety and environmental stewardship.

Membership Includes:

  • Individual listing in the Scottish Fly Fishing Guides Association directory

  • Personal profile with contact details and website links

  • Permission to display the SFFGA Member logo

  • Recognition as a guide committed to the Association's Code of Practice

  • Access to member resources, updates and professional development opportunities

  • Support in promoting Scotland as a world-class fly fishing destination

Best for: Independent guides and sole traders.

Estate & Guiding Business Membership

£450 per year

Designed for estates, lodges and guiding businesses employing up to three professional guides (one lead guide plus two additional guides).

Membership Includes:

  • Business listing in the Association directory

  • Individual profiles for up to three registered guides

  • Company logo, website and contact details

  • Permission for all registered guides to display the SFFGA Member logo

  • Recognition for operating to the Association's Code of Practice

  • promotion of your business and guides

  • Access to Association resources, industry updates and professional development

Best for: Estates, fisheries, lodges and guiding businesses with multiple guides.
